Prada recently released a new animated movie called “Trembled Blossoms” featuring pieces from her spring/summer 2008 collection. The characters and the storyline was conceived by Miuccia Prada herself.

TAKING his inspiration from the flotsam and jetsam of the ocean floor, Karl Lagerfeld celebrated 25 years at the house of Chanel this morning with a stunning collection of draped, tucked and ruffled pieces that turned his girls (their hair-swept up and adorned with bejewelled metal bands), into the most seductive water nymphs imaginable.

PARIS (AFP) — From seashells to mermaids, real and imaginary inhabitants of the deep were the inspiration of Jean Paul Gaultier’s summer haute collection on Wednesday. His show opened with a cheeky reinterpretation of Copenhagen’s famous little mermaid reclining on a rock surrounded by soap bubbles. Gaultier’s mermaids, with flowing damp tresses, sported his infamous conical bras over their fishtail skirts, which looked like real scales.

The silhouette was determinedly hourglass, all cinched waists and clear décolletage; the woman who wears Armani Privé is assured and unrelenting in her sense of chic. Despite the softness of the draping, folding and tucking, there is always a sense of rigour and structure in the signature, most apparent here in precision-cut evening coats, elaborately embroidered bodices, one-shoulder gowns where the strap is entirely bejewelled and that wonderful skirt shape - like a pencil, but nipped in at the knee.
Riccardo Tisci’s spring-summer 2008 haute couture collection for Givenchy presented on Tuesday evening showcased narrow pants in second-skin stretch white or black leather or embroidered with metal triangles and crystals, worn with big white blouses or tops with jet-embroidered cuffs and black jackets brightened up with gold.
Christian Dior opened the haute couture fashion season in Paris on Monday with an array of sumptuous gowns in gloriously bright colors. Models sashayed around a bubbling water centre-piece, dressed in silk garments, richly embroidered with gold and crystals. Dior designer John Galliano played with the feminine shape contrasting voluminous cardigans over figure-hugging skirts and dresses.

For Karl Lagerfeld, it was a trip back to the 1980s. Creations dominated by black and white, against the rainbow backdrop. Multi-layered creations marked by triangular shapes. Christian Lacroix found inspiration in American fashion photography from the 1940s and 1950s drawing delicate silhouettes for summer. Straight skirts and dresses, or tunics with nostalgic prints. Camouflage outfits and headwear… Jean-Paul Gaultier’s women are fearless conquerors. Romantic army life and short tight trousers but also feminine asymmetric tailed petticoats. For the Christian Dior fashion house, John Galliano went for Hollywood elegance. Pinstripe suits, black trousers and waistcoats. Silk everywhere, used for short or very long skirts and dresses with slim waists. Finally, an ultra-feminine and refined collection for Valentino’s farewell ready-to-wear show. Subtle colors for short, tight dresses or draped in liquid style… or long, fit for a princess. The creations and the designer received a standing ovation at the end of the show.
