ELLE.com: How did you decide to go about writing a book on style?
Nina Garcia: I am so frequently asked questions about style and shopping. I really felt there was a need for a manual, a style 101.
ELLE.com: What was the most daunting aspect of the process?
Nina Garcia: It took much longer than expected because I had a baby in between!
ELLE.com: What about the most rewarding?
Nina Garcia: The most rewarding part was the opportunity to work with and have the participation of [illustrator] Ruben Toledo and all of the wonderful designers who contributed their thoughts.
ELLE.com: What do you hope women will take away from this book?
Nina Garcia: I hope they’ll learn to be comfortable and confident in their style.
ELLE.com: What is the number one universal style rule all women should follow?
Nina Garcia: There are no rules!
ELLE.com: If you had to choose one uniform for the rest of your days, what would it be?
Nina Garcia: Black cigarette pants, high heel shoes, and a cropped jacket.
ELLE.com: What is the one item in your closet you couldn’t live without?
Nina Garcia: High heels!!!
